The most reliable would be a comprehensive genealogy, but that isn't always available.

Because scientific evidence that narrows a probability density outweighs circumstantial genealogy based on personal account.

Yeah except that if family trees actually worked like this, you'd have 2^30 ancestors in ~1000 years, or 1073741824 people (more than a trillion). Which is an order of magnitude higher than the number of people that ever lived.

I do think that it's silly that she's claiming Native heritage from that long ago, but hey, Americans are all about that shit. When I visited the Northeast I had plenty of people talking about their Dutch heritage that was at least 3-4 generations in the past.
