Its gonna be a great year for diablo!
Heres a reskin of a chinese game made by a chinese developer with a god awful reputation. What? Yes were fully aware people paid for tickets to watch this. Thats how we know they have phones.
It's funny how you've got companies like EA and Activision trying so hard to rake in the money with everything multiplayer and microtransactions calling singleplayer dead. And yet... Newest God of War smashed weekend sales record for PS4. That record was then defeated by Spiderman months later. Followed almost immediately by RDR2 which broke the 3 day weekend sales for any entertainment ever. Only thing that made more money in the 3 day timeframe was GTA 5 but that was a weekday release.
Honestly, I know it wasn't a great time to announce a mobile game considering Blizzcon attendees are pure PC gamer but if you look at what they had to announce this year I sort of understand why they did this.
-Sc2- as usual had pretty much nothing. The only awesome thing as a starcraft fan is that BW has been revived in Korea and Sc2 World Championship Series has been getting a lot more views during the year. I'm sure F2P has been a big part of this growth. So if you like Starcraft as an Esports you're happy like me.
-Heathstone- is on schedule, Nothing out of the Ordinary
-Overwatch- reveals new Hero and upcoming changes to fix Matchmaking and reduce toxicity #242133
-HotS- Does anyone play this? Even on the Esports side which they pushed over Sc2 for at least 3-4 years before overwatch came along has pathetic viewership.
-Wow- BFA is turning into another WoD failure after the success of Legion. Subs bleeding out left and rignt. Classic, well it's sort of a remaster in a way. Even though I'm happy because I've played Vanilla/TBC/LK private servers on and off for the last 8 or so years. Some concerns over the demo and some of the response as to what is going to be implemented.
-Wc3- That's another remaster.
-Diablo- D3 has clearly been left for dead, barely any new content for years, doesn't look like it'll change either. Seems like the size of the team has been reduced significantly, most of them moved towards D4 production in the most likely case.
So to recap, you have three games stagnating and/or underperforming relative to Blizzard's goals (Sc2,D3,HotS), two remasters and the usual updates to multiplayer games. Without Diablo Immortal you have no new project for Blizzcon and that's not a good look.
A real downer for the fans. Blizzcon was saved by it's Esports this year. Overwatch arena was packed, the twitch views were there. Sc2 rising from the ashes and first non-korean to win Blizzcon after a perfect year in the WCS circuit and GSL vs The World. WoW now has Mythic esports for all the drooling plebs in combination with Arena.
Speaking of Arena, Cdew has finally won Blizzcon proving to his newlyborn baby he's not an eternal loser.
