“Huge following” is purely subjective.

Basically the best example is that the popularity is extremely identical to Deadpool. Nobody cared about Deadpool before the movies, just how nobody really cared about the GoT books before the series.

Kinda like how multiple fgts claim to enjoy the light novels of SAO when they probably never read it before the series aired.

Popularity doesn't equate to superiority. The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men are two of the most popular shows ever, and they're both unwatchable.

If it wasn't for premium channels like HBO/Starz and streaming services like Amazon, Hulu, and Netflix with their own material, anime would be substantially better than American shows. There is plenty that's terrible about anime and unwatchable, but so much is created that if you're capable of finding the good ones each season, it's far superior to anything network television has to offer.
