You're posting on a computer.

Last I checked the only two processor companies got their start and did all their research in California for like 20 years.

The funny thing is a lot of people will say things like what you just did without realizing California is easily the most important state in the Union.

I'd say that New York can rival California in that regard. NYC is the center of the financial world, and one of the major cultural and intellectual hubs of the entire world.

But California is more well-rounded, with more industry, agriculture and several centers of population. If we ranked the states by how well they could cope as a sovereign country after leaving the union, California would top the list by a big margin, probably followed by Texas and then New York.

Other than that, I agree with thatalex: the main selling point of splitting california up is to tilt the power balance in the senate in the democrats favor.

If you split California and ANY of them vote Republican then it tilts the electoral college heavily in Republicans favor, and northern California definitely favors Republicans.

If you deny this then you're just at odds with reality.

This is correct. Democrats will never let California split and risk that automatic 55 (D) electoral college votes every 4 years. Same with New York's 29.

If the powers at be in California actually split the state, it would potentially be a huge blow to their agenda.

Yep. Draper is a major conservative donor. The plan is designed to give Republicans 4 senate seats and two more safe/swing electoral college victories.

"Original" California keeps its two Democrats, and the two new Californias add 3 Democrats and 1 Republican. THAT is a net win for Democrats. Northern California includes the 7+ million people of the San Francisco Bay area.
