there are people who advocate for communism, close enough as every attempt at communism is just socialism anyway

That's simply not true. Authoritarian state capitalism is what has been tried. Socialism and communism haven't. The communist parties of China, USSR, Venezuela, etc all based their structure on an accelerated quasi-Marxist trajectory. Capitalism is a necessary developmental state of communism. Lenin, Mao, Chavez etc all knew this and sought to bring capitalism to the serfs and peasants and other labor classes. If you didn't know that Marx advocated for capitalism in pre-soviet Russia then you have a lot of reading to do. Anyhow, all of the attempts have never gotten past the vanguard state capitalist model to the next stage of socialism. This stage has to be passed in order for the proletariat to begin taking control of the means of production. Without the developmental stages of capitalism, this can't happen. And without the redistributive phase of socialism there can be no communism, which itself is a stateless, anarchistic socioeconomic arrangement we will only achieve once false scarcity and power imbalances that were necessary during the developmental capitalist stage have been eliminated.

Yeah, good thing there are no illiterate Republicans who misunderstand concepts and forum posts the way excellence and EndlessSky do.

Oh wait.

It helps all around. Any side can utilize a useful idiot, although I don't think excellence is dumb, comes off as still young and new to politics.

This is why socialism survives. Because there is such a fluid definition of socialism all examples can be dismissed. The ideology is intentionally vague to avoid direct criticism.

Is Venezuela a shithole because a socialist is in charge or because it's a shithole country that has historically had totalitarian regimes?

I would think this is a troll post, but it's not phrased like one.

An ideology is not its name. Call it socialism, communism or goldfishism, the ideology is what it is. There is nobody intentionally making the definition of socialism fluid; what you are noticing is that people superficially use the same term as a label for several different ideologies.

Communism has not been attempted.
Socialism (as a pre-stage to communism) has not been attempted.
Socialism (as what's called social democracy in the USA) has been attempted with great success, but has nothing to do with the previous two.
