Good thing its not your money and Arrieta is making more money than the entire rest of the phillies team. I knew there would idiots to chime in about money on a contract that doesn't have any bearing on anything in the future.

Phillies getting out of the rebuild stage, and already have the young pieces to make that climb. Adding a proven veteran ace to a team that now seems to be everyones favorite "sleeper" playoff club.

Even before this signing, it was well known that the Phillies were probably going to win 10 to 20 more games than they did last year. Are they actual contenders yet? No, but this now helps them climb out of that "irrelevant" lul that they were in. This helps get them into the wildcard mix, and not only that but leaves the opportunity for a mid-season trade and/or major signing or two next off-season where they could very well double their payroll with no problem.

They're a big market club playing with a small market payroll in recent years as they've rebuilt, as they've gathered young pieces and put together some raw talent. Now we get to see daddy open the bank again and get ready to rock and roll.

Proven former ace*

Arrieta's career gonna drop off a cliff faster than Ryan Howard's.

Phillies got him cheaper than what was expected.
3yr/90mil was floated around when Boras was demanding 130mil+ or some shit in the beginning. Nobody's getting paid this offseason.

people hating on the signing when the Phillies got him at a pretty fair price, and went 3years max like they said they wanted to do. Arrieta was the best FA pitcher available, even if he's on a decline he's still a 2-4 win player.

and that dude is right, it's not my money and it's not like the phillies are going to be strapped for cash any time soon, they've fielded some cleveland browns type team for the last 3 years, they still have plenty to give out next season to Manny Machado.

Would never pay 25M/season for a 32 yr old pitcher who just came off his worst season since 2012. I don't need that 4.16 FIP (4.11 xFIP) for that price.

Can't wait for this season so we can relive this.
