So much for Conservatives being 'tough on crime'. They've been in charge for nearly 10 years.

perhaps we can build bullet proof chambers with a gun on a chain like a bank counter pen. people pay 25$, door opens. bullet drops out of a slot like a bag of crisps, they shoot themselves, and someone gets to clean it up for minimum wage while the owner makes big profits off the free market of life. everyone wins.

London politics and the judiciary are still left-leaning.
But yeah, perhaps it's time to review the approach to ticking timebombs like this guy once they get released from prison. Just dumping them back into the circumstances where they got radicalized in the first place seems like a really bad idea.
Also, perhaps society has to realize that the more severe cases might be a lost cause, and locking them up for the rest of their lives might sometimes be the only way to protect the public.

I read he had just been released, thinkin the brits are too lenient

i mean, in hindsight it's hard to disagree, it was objectively bad that he was released - the question is what kind of laws could have prevented that, and if we want to live in a society with such laws. i mean, considering he was in prison for a non-violent crime, the "possession of extremist material", i am sure that our free speech crowd would argue that he shouldn't even have been in prison in the first place, and that the "brits are too harsh with their thought control".

True that. Him prompting his girlfriend to decapitate her parents was a huge red flag though. Perhaps that could have been used for an "incitement to murder" charge.

I would but I'm much more libertarian than most people.

The judiciary are left leaning? There's no political leaning. Just laws.

I'm sure they'll find a way to implicate Khan in this, though...

The Judiciary is independent enough to show discretion at will causing a pretty large variance in sentencing. For example, it's illegal to illegally cross the border yet you'd be hard pressed to find a judge that will do anything about it in about half the states in the US.

Ron Paul just soiled his pants over this idea.

No man in a free nation should be denied the right to negotiate the price of their own suicide in a free market to render the service. We should even open up prison executions to private companies that bid for the job at the lowest cost to tax payers. - Ron Paul, probably.
