ya, that was a shocking decision. my best guess is that he focused on the player in the middle who was offside by a mile, the third offside player closer to him, and when the ball hit the woodwork and deflected to kostic he simply wasn't sure if he was offside as well. pure speculation ofc and no excuse - but that's why we need VAR for sure.

thing is, i don't quite understand it. had they completely dominated the first match, just conceded two unlucky goals but otherwise been solid in defense, it'd be a valid approach. that's not what happened though, frankfurt went down a man and a goal early in the match, still managed to create plenty of scoring opportunities, and although benfica was more efficient, ultimately deserved the win, and got a good result, it's not like they didn't get a taste of frankfurt's quality - so they can't be surprised they create a lot of pressure, with 11 players and on home ground.

then again, benfica are just down by one, so currently still in the lead on aggregate, and frankfurt burned a lot of energy in the first half - will be an entertaining second one for sure imo...
