The monetary pull of the premier league is demand driven. People want to watch the league and they are willing to pay more money for it. Sponsors will pay premier league clubs more due to the increased exposure they get, and sheikhs come in as a result of the consumer driven demand. That's why sheikhs aren't going to the Blundesliga or La Liga.

At the end of the day we bought players like Coutinho for 15m and sold them for 140m, it's good business and our net spend is low. Man United are big spenders but the revenue generated is enormous, why not spend big on players with that money?

Citeh and chelski are the only real plastic clubs here and the latter haven't been spending huge money for a good few years now.

thats wrong, there are plenty of investors who want to pump money into our league, but its simply not allowed

the rest is correct, the prem simply has a bigger market, but i think thats not visible in terms of performance when you watch a random game

btw, i dont need to remind you that not so long ago english teams were complete trash in europe?
these cycles are normal in sports

Football is for real fans!!. We don’t need skeihks and all the eventfans here in the Bundesliga. They can stay in premier league.

The irony of it all is that it's these foreigners (like the germans) tuning in every week that is allowing the tiny clubs of the prem to pick and choose talent from the "lesser" leagues. Meanwhile, the English maybe tune in to 2 blundersliga games a year and even then nine times out of ten the result is predictable and dull. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

there is no 'irony' in that - at least if you stopped dishonestly conflating several different issues.

the premier league is a top entertainment product, many of the biggest names in football play there, and it's undoubtedly exciting that you have two big clubs full of international star players battling it out almost every weekend. no one is denying that in terms of marketing the PL just did the best job (ofc the language helps, but that's just one aspect - they were simply quicker and better at marketing their product internationally) - so complaining about the revenue they generate from tv rights and merchandise would indeed be blaming them for something they just do better, and 'ironic' if that's how you want to use the term.

that is, however, not what we're saying here: what we call bullshit is the arrogance of some people comparing clubs (like united or chelski for example) that have only been kept alive due to massive foreign investment - despite years of poor performances with ridiculously overpaid squads. no bundesliga club would have gotten a licence mismanaging like that. yet somehow clubs that barely made europa league can pay five times the wages players earn in a club that regularly qualifies for champions league here. so our clubs lose their best players each pre-season, have to rebuild, and some ignorant fools act gleefully when they can't compete internationally. give me a break, you can't honestly be stupid enough not to see how ridiculous that is...

it's even funnier considering that despite this massive competitive advantage, the premier league only surpassed the bundesliga very recently, and still lags behind la liga - when realistically they should have been dominating football for at least two decades now...

If english teams had to play 2 to 4 competitive games a year in the league, they'd probably do better in europe ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But there are strict financial controls in other leagues. In Germany it's virtually impossible for a sheikh to come in and inject money, unless they want to build up from the regional leagues like Red Bull or Dietmar Hopp did with Leipzig and Hoffenheim. In Spain, only 10% of whatever money owners want to inject into the club can be used on transfers and wages. So it's not just a matter of league marketing, it's also that it's much harder to make the club successful in the short term.... and quick satisfaction is pretty much what billionaires in search of a toy want.

if i didn't know that was beneath you, i'd almost assume you didn't care for villarreal very much...

Can't deny it's satisfying to see how now that the owner has stopped injecting money, the club is slowly fading back to obscurity. While I have no doubt that they'll avoid relegation (the squad is mid table material, despite their struggles), and the fantastic youth system they've set up will also ensure their survival in the following years, they are clearly in regression and will someday eventually drop back down. I can imagine in 10 years time, them relegating to Segunda and Castellón returning to the same division, and it will be hilarious to see how the vast majority of Villarreal's fan base (which were borrowed/stolen from Castellón), will jump back to their original wagon.

as much as it hurts me to say that, considering i absolutely despise those clubs: but even the likes of hoffenheim and leipzig aren't remotely close to the level of basically unconditional financial support your average english sheikh toy has - perfectly illustrated by the fact that those are exactly the two clubs that sold the players who scored for liverpool this tuesday...

completely understandable of course, is there anything more satisfying than plastic fans of plastic clubs eating some humble pie?

English teams do badly in Europe for a few years. Germans are like: TAKE THE 4TH SPOT AWAY!
German teams do even worse in Europe. Germans start crying because they can't take the banter
