I am looking at a new 2017 Chevy Camaro, v6 upgrade for $1645 CAD, base on everything else. 1LS, although I'd pounce on 1LT if the price were ~1,000 different (oddly automatic costs a lot more if financing, it gets a $4,000 discount if paying cash but forfeited if financing, whereas standard gets a $450 discount even if financing, making the gap in price quite huge if financing).

Pricing online seems decent:
$32,500 Canadian before taxes, 60 months financing, 0% APR. That price includes freight-in, V6 upgrade, and a $442 discount credit. I'd be trading in my current vehicle, I estimate a low of $2700 and a high of $3600 for it. I also expect to get a $750 student discount (for graduates within past 4 years). Everything factored in, if there were no additional fees or incentives, with a $4,000 downpayment, I'd be making $460/month payments for 60 months.

My question: Dealerships near me seem to be pricing $4,000 higher than what's listed online. Inflated quite a bit. And almost all they offer is the 4 cylinder model, or the beefed up $60,000+ models. I would jump on the 4 cyl if the price was right... but it's supposed to be a $1,645 upgrade to move up to the v6, per the website, and v6 matters to me if I'm already at around the $30k mark. I'm wondering how much leeway I'll have. Is getting the online chevy website price a "good deal" or even possible, considering dealerships are marked up way over that?

You considering destination and prep in your comparison?

Not 100% sure. I'm looking at pre-tax, but with freight and AC tax already factored in. So it would seem what is quoted online on Chevy's site includes all costs, except for any dealership markups.

I am willing to pay the amount on Chevy's site, but no more. I was hoping to haggle for less, but I'm beginning to wonder if the car dealerships don't make a dime if they move below Chevy's online pricing.

What I do know is when I ask around on other forums, people hate on me for not buying used. I can't find advice, all I get is flamed for trying to buy used. It's weird...

I don't buy new vehicles for my personal use. I'll snag a rental or short term lease car that is ~12 months old with under 10k miles for 75% of the sticker. Let someone else eat that price in my opinion.

However, talk to the dealer? Their no haggle best price guarantee shit is nothing but a starting point. I've never payed anywhere near sticker for any of the work trucks. Also, Cash talks

Any reason your not looking at what local dealerships have in terms of new on the lot? You might be able to snag a New 2016 or 2017 on discount for not being the upcoming 2018 model year (should be out soon if not already)

As for the prices, Ive never ordered new online before. But I would believe what ever the Chevy online says when you special order it is the price before Tax/Title/License/Doc Fees.

As for going used, I understand the allure of the New Car, but if you can find a used one for $6,000 less with like 10,000 or less miles it is a good idea.

I don't want used on this type of car just based on the risk -- the extra 6,000 = assurance that it wasn't abused by a foot made of lead.

I haven't had time yet. Just doing research this week, looking next week. Online all local dealerships have shit stock (all decked out and pricey or base with 4 cylinder), and all prices are hiked up way higher than they should be even given the options -- by about 4-5 grand. The 4 cyl offerings are priced almost reasonably given the options, but they're 4 cyl. Whatever reason, the only v6 models near me are hiked up by 10 grand just because of the $1645 v6 upgrade.

If I had the money for a v8 I wouldn't be looking at Chevrolet. I have no idea why I'd want to pay about double, and the gas on top of that. I'm not racing, the v6 is amazing.

I bought a V6 camaro RS 1LT brand new, 11 months later, I bought a C7 z51 2LT Corvette 7k miles used.

From my experience, I would never buy a new car again.
Also, if the car is used under 10k miles, it was never neglected for maintenance, and maybe I am a naive, how much damage can you cause to a automatic muscle car by being heavy on pedal, isn't that what they are made for???

Idk, I just don't trust people. New has enough problems statistically as it is ahaha -- had so many bad new purchases related to camera gear and computers.

That and say 85% of the car value is in the first 200,000km.

Without doing more thorough math, 10,000km on a 35,000 after tax car is worth $1,500 just in km's. That's not factoring in other things like value of the first km's being more than the latter km's, and reassurance that the car is good.

I'd value 10,000 km's used as about $6,000 of a $35,000 car. So it's a bit of a wash. I know leasing for 10,000km would be cheaper, but my values are derived from a much more limited pool of income and exposure.

I totally understand the buy used approach. It makes a lot of sense. I just like sticking with a car for a long time and feel new mitigates what-if anxiety thoughts. What I don't understand is the "go v8 or go home" attitude, and other elitist things I hear -- I'm not racing or doing burnouts, v6 sounds nicer than v8 imo as well more streamlined less sloppy roar, and who the hell needs enhanced aerodynamics to stay on the road at triple the speed limit?!??

That's pretty silly, no cars in the world are beat on harder than rentals and leases.
