sounds ignorant

I would say it is definitely ignorance. Like I said, the last time I built a machine was back in 2011 and I've been busy since that time.

In 2011 when I made that build, vast majority of people agreed that AMD was for more budget builds. Intel was for those that could afford the extra cash.

It's pretty much the same now. Enthusiast and workstation grade Intel processors (X299 / LGA 2066) just came out and we're waiting to see if AMD's new Threadripper processors are able to compete.

Build cost is < $1500 or if you need 8 cores on a budget go AMD. If you have cash to burn, Intel is a solid choice still.

are they still winning over amd?
core vs core

also what benchmarks are you looking at?

skylake-x is slower than broadwell-e in every game here.
actually lost pretty badly in a few. civ 6 was a massacre. far cry primal was a decent gap too

The story in some tests.. is even worse

10 skylake-x cores losing to 8 broadwell-e cores in a multi-threaded workload

oh dear
http://images.anandtech.com/graphs/graph11550/87108.png
even the ryzen 5 beats the i9 in this one... ryzen FIVE
http://images.anandtech.com/graphs/graph11550/87081.png
where even is the i9? Oh there it is... Lagging behind haswell-e...
http://images.anandtech.com/graphs/graph11550/87084.png
ryzen 5 wins again...

This is not a good successor to broadwell-e. It was rushed to compete with ryzen and the cracks are showing. It really is just like when they released the Pentium D in fear AMD's K8 arch

But surely optimizations and mesh will save it

wow so ryzen released without issues and results didnt change?
were you around for x58 or x99 platform releases? were they buttery smooth too?
lol
and so rushed that they actually changed for mesh design on slx and klx cpus hmm how did they manage that big change in months?

Yeah I can't wait for those microcode updates that cause the chips to have more l3 cache.
Since lack of said cache is what's causing a lot of these issues.

Ryzen had very different problems and you know it, mostly related to mobo/ram manufacturers and os optimization rather than flaws in the actual silicon.

Over at hexus and bit-tech and tosmhardware it was cracking 100c on high-end water cooling.

Just makes me think back to the good old days of http://www.pcworld.com/article/3031222/tech-events-dupe/future-intel-chip-tech-will-sacrifice-speed-gains-for-power-efficiency.html
Boy that got sweeped under the rug real quick once they had actual competition

Hey man stop hating on intel it's just release numbers it'll get better. Remember Ryzen? x58 and x99?
