But even with Xbox RROD issue slightly inflating the hardware numbers, 360 outsold PS3 on software attachment. Since we know software is where the money is really at, I would argue that 360 won.

I agree. Of course there are more metrics to consider which can skew the argument. But when I said they won the race I meant console sale numbers which seems to be what the industry considers the most important metric. I can't say I agree but it is what it is.
Examples are the Wii, Wii U and the Vita.
Wii was rittled with shovelware but is considered a phenomenon because of sale numbers.
Wii U undeniably has some great software but is considered a failure because of console sale numbers.
Vita iirc had an attachment rate of 7 games per unit but is considered a failure for the same reason.
