its not just about oil, its about the geostrategic location. with the arctic thawing, the arctic passage seems primed to become a new major shipping route between east asia and europe. one that would be significantly shorter and avoid the strait of malacca, the horn of africa and the suez canal. greenland would basically be a giant, unsinkable carrier looking over this new shipping route, telling the russians to not even think about messing with it.

yep too bad the old guard and swamp creatures only have one trick when it comes to geopolitics - “invade or destabilize regions”

we already have a base there tho. if anything that can be beefed up. but it's the same scam as NATO which suggests Russian missiles are to be expected at any time. it's a cash play to sell contracts to defense contractors. Russia is a dangerous geopolitical foe in the contexts of cyber defense and even local territory infringement as they try to claw back USSR land on their borders. the idea that we need Greenland to somehow dissuade Russia from launching attacks they otherwise would go forward with seems to be fantasy, especially given that we already have a base there.

the only logical and realistic justification for Greenland is mining, but Greenlanders wont sell knowing their home will be stripminned. so it's a dead issue imo. even with a profit share system where they get money from mining in perpetuity (as well as Denmark) it's not workable given the realistic chance of ecological damage that could take place.

There are zero mainstream media outlets reporting on the fact that Trump dipped his toes into the fact Ilhan Omar married her brother and strong likelihood she immigrated under a false identity.
I've been googling it infrequently since, and nobody is reporting on it, at all. What a juicy story. Imagine all the MSM running nuts with stories of "Trump spreads racist conspiracy theories~!!!!" as if its Birther 2.0
We're at a point right now where the media is consciously suppressing this story. They won't report on it even if Trump talks about it. Right now all he's done is retweet about it, but it would be really interesting to see what would happen if Trump actually came out guns blazing and called out Ilhan Omar. We already have buckets of proof the story is real beyond any doubt, only the finer details still open (is her name actually Ilhan Nur Said Elmi? I'd say 95%+ odds based on evidence). Yet the media hasn't just been failing to investigate, but exposed repeatedly as explicitly suppressing this story, spiking investigations and smearing journalists who look into it, colluding directly with Ilhan's campaign in the past.

So we're in this oddity where Trump can tweet something extremely inflammatory that checks every box for "We need to write 1000 articles slamming Trump as a racist!!!" and yet there isn't a single mention of this online yet
