It won't be anything even remotely like what Edmonton's crooked goons did. Nenshi yesterday: "Five out of the seven teams in Canada have privately owned rinks, only Edmonton and Calgary are publicly owned, and the Edmonton deal may have been right for Edmonton, where they desperately needed revitalization and construction in their downtown core, that is not the case in Calgary … so we have to find a new model."

The organization looks awful with all these new soundbites. The team is going nowhere at all, and all their bitching and threatening their fanbase is turning them into villains in their own backyard. Amateur hour.

Exactly. I'm a fan of the team and I want them to get a new rink. That being said, them continually mentioning that they are going to pack up and leave town really feels like a 10 year old who lost a game and took his ball home. I'd have a lot more respect for the ownership group if they would stop with the idle threats and just get down to fair negotiation. Not what Edmonton got, what's fair.

Just using words you'd understand.
Edmontons deal, you won't hear anyone from here complaining about it anymore. The billion+ in construction. And the team going to round 2 playoffs. All the extra entertainment we've gotten this past year since it's opened. The pros outweigh the cons.
Flames are using same tactics as Katz did. And will get a deal similar to the oilers most likely.

Different cities and needs though.

I think the Edmonton downtown project was a good way to spend tax-payer money. It took an old run-down part of downtown and made it into a beautiful arena and bar/entertainment district. Calgary doesnt need the same type of revitilization however I'm sure KK and the Flames Ownership want the downtown rink just like Edmonton.

A lot of what's going on downtown is thru the community revitalization levy. Which I'm sure Calgary can use aswell.

You're from here. You do know whyte ave is our bar scene. Nothing around the arena for bars. Other than say, mercers?
