Maple Leafs captain John Tavares is fighting the Canada Revenue Agency over an $8M tax bill.
Tavares says he should owe 15% on a US$15.3M signing bonus he received when he signed with Toronto in 2018. The CRA says the bonus should be taxed at 38%.

He has np paying taxes on the other 7 yrs, it's the first year he's arguing. Since he was living in NY when he got the signing bonus from them, and they have a rule that it's capped at 15%. The CRA is being a dick as usual and trying to tax him the full like the other 7 yrs when he wasn't living in Canada at the time
