Avs have improved, Barrie is mostly offensive and honestly leafs are only getting 1 year of him before they can’t pay him his raise. Value lost but not a big fleece job like some people are portraying. Kerfoot is the real lost value here, not sure why Sakic needed to include him.

Anyway, a decent 2nd line centre is exactly what the doctor ordered for Avs. Can’t rely on your top 3 to carry to the final

Ofc avs got worse for losing barrie, that's a given when you lose a 50pt Dman but if you look past end of this coming season, avs are in far better shape.

They squeaked into playoffs last season, and they could've tried the same recipe again and hope to make it past round 2 playoffs again. If they don't win the cup, then they potentially lose barrie for even less or nothing. Much better to try again with kadri and rely on makar, Gira, etc. Then use the cap to figure out what they need next to take the next step. Far better shape long term imo
