I'm not convinced he's a #2C. So right there the value isn't comparable to me, and you keep ignoring the fact we added a consistent 40pt player who is 4 years younger, to the trade. The 3rd shoud have been their 2nd at the very least.
Idk how you can feel kadri isn't a 2c yet you feel kerfoot is a consistent 40pt player in just 2 yr sample. You do realize he actually played worse this season on 5v5, than his 1st? He got 16pts from pp and 12 of those are assist, 10 being secondary. I don't know if he will get as much pp time with the leafs to do that.
Kerfot wanted 4+ mil and Sakic didn't wanna pay him that much, didn't want him going to arbitration and let him walk for nothing if he declines the arbitration or force to pay the money. Another option is to trade him away...which is what he did. Sure, he coulda tried with another trade but maybe he didn't get enough interest.

If Colorado thinks they can push for a cup now there chances just got a lot lower without a Barrie caliber RH d. As good as their future blue line looks those guys aren’t filling those shoes next year.
If Colorado is building for when Makar / Bowen are established nhl d-men kadri is a pending UFA.

I don't think makar needs 3 yrs to be established. He seemed as advertised in the small playoff sample to me. Probably find out this year or next. Having both Girard and makar makes barrie expendable, hence all those rumors of him being the "odd" one out. Bowen probably might be 3 yrs away from established but who knows.
