I don't hate the Hughes choice but I am a bit surprised. If it's a ploy to increase the odds he stays in Vancouver for life than so be it.

Apparently he is a leader in the room despite his age. I don't think anyone else on the team will brush him off despite his age. He is an all in kind of guy and you have to respect that.

NHL is getting younger compared to 20yrs ago, so I think being a 23yr old captain isn't a problem at all. Lots of young captains around the league, and the older vets respect them as long as they're mature and pro. He has character and personality to be a fit captain.
