Basics
The V/T (Vindicator/Templar) is a hybrid character, which uses two different attacks and two auras, Fist of the Heavens/Conviction and Smite/Fanaticism. This character will be bulit to compete at level 30 with characters of all classes.
I will say to begin that there may be other routes, some that I'm aware of, others that I may not be, to build/gear this character, but this is the way that I have bult mine and recommend you do so.

Armor: 35% Resist Skin of the Vipermagi. Keep a Spirit Shroud Ghost Armor in your stash for times when you need the can't be frozen.
FoH Weapon: Honor Divine/War Scepter with +3 Fist of the Heavens and +x Conviction. You could also use a Spirit Crystal Sword, but you loose points into smite this way, and also do less FoH dmg.
FoH Shield: 45% Base All Resist Spirit Akaran Rondache or Akaran Targe.
Smite Weapon: Flail, socketed with 3 Shael runes and 2 nice jewels with mods like resist, strength, dexterity, life, and mana.

Belt: +24% Faster Hit Recovery with +Life, Strength, Mana, Resists. Keep a 15% Damage Reduction String of Ears in your stash for when you need it vs. melee.
Gloves: Bloodfists.

Charms
You're going to want to use +15 life small charms. If at all possible, use ones coupled with mods such as single resists, all resist, mana, and defense. You may also wish to keep several 5% Faster Hit Recovery charms in your stash for if you need it vs. some characters.
Pointers
-Charge is your best friend. Learn to use it to move around without draining your mana to 0 at the same time.
-When FoHing, always try to make sure your conviction aura has taken effect before you attack. If not, it's pretty much a waste of time and mana.
-You are not a high damage character, so do not play as such. Stand your ground, but don't charge into a spamming hammerdin expecting to 1-hit it.
-Walking increases your chance to block when facing melee characters.
-Try and pin characters against walls/gaps in the ground using Smite.
-A Runestaff Insight in your stash can be fun to play around with. Don't get too friendly with it though, and remember you lose block and resists when using it.
