That was during the Cold War. A war which officially ended in 1991. Since then, I can't think of proper NATO attacks on Russia.

What would a security 'guarantee' look like in any workable scenario

Russia is fighting a war to oppose NATO expansion on their doorstep. They're winning the war. They won't make peace if it means NATO using Ukraine as a heavily militarized launching pad to attack Russia, with Ukraine still held by ultranationalists with motivation to breach the peace but now with NATO troops backing them up. Russia is perfectly willing to offer their voluntary security, the agreement that Russia won't attack Ukraine if Ukraine doesn't attack Russia. That's the maximum security offered by a peace deal, not a guarantee. At the end of the day, the only way one sovereign nation can guarantee that another sovereign nation can't threaten them, is to kill them first. To fight a war and win it. Well NATO is created to counter the cold war, So why is there a need to keep moving Eastward towards Russia. Maybe NATO should disband after the cold war and form something else instead without America inside ?

Nato exists because orcs cant control their violent savage nature. Theyre the only subhuman species that haven't evolved beyond a need for war, conquest and subjugation of both domestic and foreign populations.

NATO kept expanding eastward because all those Eastern European countries couldn't wait to get under its protective umbrella, so that they never have to suffer from Russian rule ever again. They joined NATO voluntarily, not because the US was pressuring or pushing them. In some cases, like for example Ukraine, they wanted to join but were rejected. If NATO was this aggressively expansionist organization that you guys make it out to be, and if it was fully dominated by the evil American empire while its European vassals have no agency and must do whatever Washington tells them to, why were Ukraine's and Georgia's bids to join NATO rebuffed in 2008, based predominantly on resistance from Merkel and Sarkozy?



NATO's organizational structures weren't dissolved after the end of the Cold War, but its non-US members ramped down their military budgets and capacities very drastically during the 90s and 2000s, to the current point where they're barely able to carry out any military operations.
