this has always been a war between USA and Russia, proxy on the USA side.

So weird some people still refuse to see this.

Then again, they are probably too busy taking experimental elixirs from the government to stop and think.

Ever trump for the Nobel Peace Prize

Not only for the Peace Prize but also for the Economics Prize for floating tariffs- and for the Literature Prize if he writes memoirs about Epstein.

Ukraine is not toothless to be sidelined here. If they truly want to refuse to lay down arms and accept any reasonable peace deal, they aren't limited to just ignoring it. Ukraine could launch radical attacks designed to disrupt negotiations, or even attack US/EU targets. That might seem far fetched until we remember the Zelensky regime has loose control over the Nationalist and Azov Nazi forces who nearly mutinied after disastrous losses, and those nationalists have already tried to assassinate Trump. Twice.

The biggest impetus of the October 7th attack was Israel normalizing relations with the KSA, which would sideline and isolate Hamas. They saw themselves being cornered on the chessboard and lashed out, they knew if Israel and the Saudis and Qatar and Dubai are all aligned against Iran and Hamas, they'd be outplayed diplomatically and militarily. Its been two years and where are we now? France and the UK want to recognize a Palestinian state and join the BDS movement.

We're in both a time of potential peace making and potential chaos unfolding, walking that razor's edge. We can at least be aware of the seemingly unforeseeable dangers

Hamas attacked Israel, though, not Saudi Arabia, so the analogy is off. Ukraine trying to sabotage the peace talks with some kind of escalatory attack on Russia is plausible. But them attacking a US or EU target seems outlandish if you ask me. Despite the rhetoric coming out of the European capitals, much of Europe is sick and tired of this war and would love an excuse to ramp down their efforts. The same of course applies hundred-fold to Trump.

Regarding the Gaza situation, it should also be mentioned that the Palestinians only made these gains on the diplomatic front once Israel kept overplaying its hand. One can argue that their desperate attempt at goading Israel into a disastrous war (disastrous particularly on the propaganda front) was a complete success, but this outcome still hinged on Israel actually making such a blunder.

I dont see fatigue either in Europe or Israel though. Europe is building up its weapons for something and Israel continues doing its thing.
in both regards we are on a runaway train and no one - Europe, Israel, the US, Russia, knows when or where it is going to stop.

Europe wants to appear strong to discourage any future concessions to Russia but reality is they want the war to end. There's a fair amount of neocons in power there that have no problem continuing to funnel tens of billions to Ukraine indefinitely per year but i think in general most Euro politicians want the war to end, especially now that Trump pulled back military spend and basically told Europe you are footing this bill.

I sense a significant war fatigue in Israel's wider civil society, even if the politicians in charge have no intention of stopping anytime soon. And there obviously, evidently is fatigue with Israel among its Western partners.

This. I would add that a lot of European business leaders are also growing anxious with the ongoing economic slump. As are the fiscal politicians who project our financial breathing room 10 or 20 years into the future, when we have an even higher share of old people to take care of.

Aside from the arms manufacturers, pretty much everyone agrees that we could really spend these billions on more productive things.

easy for me to agree to all of this, but the fact remains the EU is building up while Israel's governing body... *shrugs*.
