With Ukraine talks possibly resuming in the following weeks, Putin clarifies his position - independent and neutral Ukraine, but Russia keeps all the territory it has seized so far. Threatens to seize Sumy, but doesn’t demand the unoccupied remainder of the regions Russia has formally annexed.

The Kremlin doesn’t care much what to occupy - occupation is merely a leverage for achieving its main goals in Ukraine, like neutral status, de-militarisation, language rights. I don’t think Putin sees a division of Ukraine between Russia and the West as an option. Neither he wants to dismantle Ukraine’s statehood. He wants a fully-fledged buffer zone.

If true, that's a major step toward a realistic position.

Regarding the "independent" part: big doubt. I can't see Russia being satisfied with any outcome in which Ukraine isn't effectively in their sphere of influence again, even if its formal status on paper is "independent".

Well the US and Ukraine would certainly not be satisfied.

I think we'd need to distinguish when it comes to the US. The FP establishment would not be satisfied at all. On the other hand, I doubt Trump and his folks give any fuck. He just wants this war to be over with, no matter what it costs Ukraine or what the longer-term repercussions for Europe's security will be if a "bad" deal is struck.

Germany has pledged €9 billion (approximately $10.4 billion) in aid to Ukraine for 2025, according to a recent report. This includes a €5 billion military aid package. Additionally, Germany has committed to providing further support in the coming years, with plans to authorize €8.252 billion in military aid for Ukraine between 2026 and 2029. This brings the total commitment to over €11 billion for that period.

on June 17–18, Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz praised Israel’s recent air‐strikes on Iran, calling them “the dirty work that Israel is doing for all of us.” He said he “has the greatest respect” that Israel “had the courage to do this,” emphasizing that these strikes protect not just Israel but also Europe from Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

so if Germany is sending billions to Ukraine, lets see what its doing for Israel...

In 2023, Germany approved €326.5 million (≈ $353 million) in military exports to Israel
In early 2024, this surged tenfold compared to 2022
From January to August 2024, approvals dropped sharply to €14.5 million—with only €32,449 of that classified as war‑grade weaponry
From August to October 2024, another €94 million in export licenses was granted
A parliamentary update confirmed Germany approved €485 million in weapons exports from October 2023 through mid-May 2025

Yay! lets invade countries! for freedom! for democracy!

I hope there will be another huge wave of religion of peace moving to Germany. When the dust settles.
