The US has a terrible track record at controlling our proxies. Assassinating zelensky would greatly raise the chances of ukrainian forces going rogue with our weapons, and if/when the regime is starting to fall apart there's not much we can do.
We've already seen widespread mutiny by UA forces in a couple particular battles where they simply refused to be fed into the meat grinder and we've seen dissension from the ultranationalists at the highest levels of the military. All it takes is one nazi having access to a long range drone and deciding to bomb the group of world leaders aligned against ukraine at the anti-nazi parade. Then what? There's no way Russia or China could refuse to act if their leaders are murdered by NATO, and they won't be too keen on our pretense of UA acting independently. At a minimum Kyiv gets nuked

Thankfully, Putin has a vested interest in securing the parade since his own ass will be on the line, so Russia will put maximum effort into controlling its air space in and around Moscow during the festitivities.

And that will trigger world War 3. And we will save our climate since 50% of the world's global population will be wiped.

Nope, nobody in actual positions of power in the west wants Ukraine to bomb the victory day parade unless they're going full brigadier general ripper and want to stop the russians sapping our bodily fluids.
Its a question of whether we actually have the level of control over the UA forces that we refuse to acknowledge we have. I mean, we still maintain our proxy war deniability and insist we're just facilitating Ukraine carrying out attacks independently, while the unproven assumption is that US special forces are on the ground in Ukraine operating the long range weapons so Ukrainians don't have direct control over them. And if that's the case, we don't have anything to worry about. But if we're giving any level of control over to UA forces, which is what we claim to be doing, then all it takes is one Nazi going rogue and bombing Moscow during the parade
and so far there have been daily long range drone attacks on Moscow with the parade just three days away, and Zelensky is overtly threatening foreign heads of state who attend it

So even if the odds are still remote, they're looking much higher. A drone bombing either the civilians watching the parade or worse, attending heads of state, or worst of all xi jinping himself, would create such an immediate chaos we can't really predict what would happen but we know it wouldn't be good. Very likely all the countries present would declare formal war on Ukraine, at which point the NATO powers have to decide whether they fight world war 3 or let an RU/CN/etc coalition crush Kyiv

Yeah, I see your point. I was also thinking about the oligarchs that made Zelensky out of nothing. They probably wouldn’t have done this if they didn’t have means to control him. And they’ve been making money while there was peace. They probably adapted somehow to making money on war. But I don’t think they’d be making more (if any) money on such an escallation.

The risk is always there, of course.
