Stefanyshyna: Ukraine's membership in the EU by 2030 is a virtually decided matter.Key Quotes:
"Ukraine will be a member of the European Union by 2030. This is already a virtually decided matter," commented Stefanyshyna on the statement by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, that with the current pace of reforms, Ukraine could join the EU by 2030.
The seriousness and realism of the EU's intentions are indicated by the fact that the EU budget for 2026–32/33 is being formed with Ukraine's membership in mind, explained Stefanyshyna.
"The seriousness of the EU's intentions can be assessed by the efforts of Hungary to block their implementation," added Stefanyshyna. "Hungary is now actively trying to block Ukraine's inclusion in the next EU budget."
Ukraine has also set a deadline of 2027 for all future obligations to the EU, without requesting transitional periods, she added. This means that part of the legislation for Ukraine's integration into the EU will be developed in 2025–2026 and adopted in 2027.
"Therefore, this goal [2030] is absolutely realistic. We are already integrated into the EU in many sectors. These include telecommunications services, trade, transport and customs liberalization, and energy markets," said Stefanyshyna.
There are still problematic issues, but the level of integration is already high, added the Deputy Prime Minister. Therefore, a large number of myths and threats have been dispelled. "Of course, the agricultural sector remains a trigger, but a huge range of issues is no longer a trigger," she concluded.
