Ukraine isn't seeking military dominance, just enough defense capacities to deter Russia from coming back. The big question is just how this could be accomplished.

It has become clear by now that the NATO countries aren't committed enough to the Ukrainian cause to risk actual war with Russia. Was kinda evident for years, all the Trump admin did was end the charade and make it official. On the flip side, the Europeans and Americans clearly don't trust Ukraine enough to equip them with actually strong weapons with which they could inflict truly hurting wounds on Russia in case of a future escalation. See all the dithering of Europeans about long-range missiles, or how it took years until they greenlit a small handful of older jets. And as yesterday's spat shows, Ukraine isn't fully trustworthy, so we really don't want to arm them up too much. See your point about the risk of a coup by the Azovites. (Which I think you're overstating, but it is indeed a possibility.)

It could've been accomplished in December 2021 --> no NATO membership for Ukraine. NATO refused to even start negotiations.

It could've been accomplished in March 2022, Istanbul peace deal. Ukraine didn't sign because they were told they would get all the support needed to defeat Russia.

The only option for Ukraine right now (because they lost US support) is a peace deal. Trump will force them. If Zelensky refuses he will lose more territory and more Ukrainians will get killed.

There's nothing the EU can do, they should've massively boosted defense spending to build a new military industrial complex from the ground up 3 years ago. Too late now.

And yet, Ukraine is still not at the point of acceding to the terms Russia had offered in 2021, even though Russia is no longer offering anything remotely that generous
That's where we're at right now.

If we had gone with diplomacy in the first place this could have been a net positive for the US/EU. We overthrew a pro-russia government by force and we could have kept ill-gotten gains with a non-NATO western Ukraine firmly in our sphere of influence and even had the DPR/LPR as autonomous regions within them, still formally part of Ukraine even if aligned with Russia and outside the west's jurisdiction. Instead what we're fighting for today is the DPR/LPR a full oblasts of Russia, wide swathes of minerals and farmlands seized by Russia and western Ukraine as a depopulated welfare state full of rubble, heavy weapons and an ultranationalist militia that will turn on us.

Granted that's all spilt milk. But like I say, even with the situation soured so badly we still can't get Zelensky to even take baby steps towards a realistic peace plan

I saw the whole interview. Zelensky snapped and even called Vance a bitch. I don't think the interview was coordinated at all. Trump went all in to show to his voters he wants peace but peace is not possible with Zelensky. That's what I got from that message. CNN is attacking Trump nonstop disregarding completely that both sides acted like amateurs. I guess Zelensky has got more to lose from this shitshow.

He said "suka blyat" to be precise. This is more of an interjection that can be used in a similar way (when saying it to yourself) when your interlocutor has either lost the thread of the conversation or completely doesn't understand what is being talked about. Something akin to OMFG.
