It didn’t have to end like this for Ukraine. It could have ended with lofty words, shy smiles, pats on the back and gentle nudges towards negotiations table.

But that would probably happen many hundred thousands lives and swathes of Ukrainian territory lost from now. After many more lies about security guarantees, peacekeepers and Russia imminently collapsing. Because the real world is so different from the phantasy world drawn by stratcom experts previously known as spin doctors.

Ukraine was betrayed - not by Trump, but by those who shoved it under Putin’s bulldozer knowing all too well how it would end.

So, I decided to watch the whole thing from the beginning.

Looks like Zelensky couldn't read the room and started off on the wrong foot with his usual propaganda.

Vance is young and overreacted (even though he's right).

But, boy, Zelensky... Not that he matters at this point but anyway. His handlers could've prepared him better diplomatically. He knows how Trump is, he knows what the US position on this war is and he knows he has no cards... What was he thinking?

Maybe his European co-leaders in crime put pressure on him not to give USA the deal it wants.

Only thing not clear to me is if Zelensky was aware of this as well or just a useful idiot, kept in ignorance by his handlers when the previous peace deal, 2 years ago, was on the table.

For that exchange to happen so publicly on camera is crazy. I almost feel bad for Zelensky. Guy was a great entertainer, rich, famous, well off. Should of stayed in his lane, instead he's the face of a huge mess.

Side note, his show servant of the people was actually pretty quality TV.

What poor calculus by Z. Team Trump is working towards the sanest way out of the war, and Z creates havoc in the Oval. Guess this is the transparency we mandated.

Perhaps he is just using the opportunity to publicize the war and has no intent on mineral deal or submit to peace.
