Eastern Ukrainians have been in a bitter entrenched civil war, fighting on the front lines, shelling back and forth. Russia was trying to negotiate a peace to the war in the Donbas in the decade prior to invading, while supporting their proxies the Donbas People's Militias in the DPR and LPR just like we were supporting the western Ukrainian military. Saying they were "funded by Russia" or "installed by Russia by force", are you even listening to yourself? The Ukrainian government was overthrown in a color revolution. The CIA and State Department backed and then micromanaged the revolution, handpicked the new government and funded and supplied weapons to them throughout the civil war. It was a proxy conflict, the US propped up one side, Russia propped up one side. Do you really imagine for even a minute that Zelensky would be running around the EU in his pajamas while world leaders bow to him, if the US didn't have a puppeteering hand stuck up his ass?
The people of eastern ukraine overwhelmingly supported Russia and voted for independence and later joining Russia, because they
are Russians. Ethnic Russians, Russian speakers, now citizens of Russia. Look what the 2001 census showed;
