It's much more dire than 'nothing' in other interventions. Toppling Saddam, led to his army remnants the Ba'athists to serve as the backbone of Daesh/ISIS. Our actions quite literally led to the formation of ISIS. NATO toppling of Libya has led to a completely destabilized failed state that's basically been in a civil war for a decade now. Libya now is a huge hub of human trafficking. So many African migrants in Europe directly came through Libya.

Ukraine is at risk of having a power vacuum that could get filled by some nasty people. Its natural resources could be pledged as payment for arms, basically draining the country of whatever leftover wealth, only for them to continue to fight and hemorrhage people as people keep leaving the country.

It looks like Ukraine is going to get gutted (by the west).

Glorious. JD Vance basically just gave Joe Biden's policy of not talking with rivals (Russia, China) the finger. ALWAYS try dialogue.

pretty sure that was part of the plan all along...other part was make sure Germany's advanced technology and Russia's manufactories never able to compete against America's economy ... A win win..accept for Russia/Ukraine/EU.. The 2 party system in America owning the world playing the part of the blame each side while acting as 1 party..

Shelling Chernobyl to take it makes no sense. Shelling it to trigger a nuclear incident and frighten the Western partners during the MSC would make a lot more sense; for either Ukraine or Russia, depending on your priors. If you believe that the Europeans are scared little puppies without a backbone, it makes sense to assume that a nuclear incident would cause them to panic and get on board for a quick peace, even if it's one on Russian terms. If you believe that the Europeans are selfish and complacent slackers who have the means, but lack the willpower to stand up to Russia, it makes sense to assume that a reckless Russian attack on a NPP would rally them against Russia. For now, I would rule out neither Russian responsibility nor a false flag by Ukraine.

Side note: Chernobyl is located in a much more sparsely populated area of Ukraine, so the potential risk for them from nuclear fallout would be much smaller in Chernobyl than it was at the Zaporizhzhia NPP which is located smack bang in the middle of the country. And Ukraine is far more desperate now than they were one or two years ago. That's why I am now more open to the idea of a Ukrainian false flag than I was back then.

Mental gymnastics

Reminds me of the Nord Stream bombings, Russia blew up their own pipelines to show the West that they had the capability. Do you still believe that?

Well I could be wrong but IMO it's clear as day, it's another attempt to draw the West into the war after the thousands of Russian war crimes, the "Russian missile" that fell on Poland, multiple attacks on the Zap nuclear power plant, supposed Chinese involvement / military supplies, the supposed waves of thousands of North Koreans, etc

The Nord Stream bombings immediately sent gas prices soaring, bolstering Russian profits and causing a panic in Europe, particularly Germany, about an imminent gas shortage during the upcoming winter. Russia was the direct beneficiary of NS being blown up at the time it happened. And when the pipelines were blown up, there was no gas flowing through them anyway, plus very little prospect of gas flow resuming anytime soon. Aaand it was the time when Ukraine was on the offense and Russia was in retreat, so Russia had a huge incentive to stop the Western aid by any means necessary.

So even if they didn't end up being the culprits, the general idea made perfect sense. Certainly more sense than your claim that Ukraine was bombing the Zap NPP in 2023, risking the contamination of 50% of its own territory, at a time when the situation on the battlefield was still a stalemate and there was no major international summit going on.

Doesn't make sense, was endlessly discussed

The construction costs of NS2 project alone was 10+ billion, Russia paid a chunk of that.

How many billion in profits would Russia gain exploiting the pipelines when eventually relations would be normalized.

Russia controlled the flow of gas which means there was absolutely no reason for them to blow em up.

They had absolutely no reason to blow up their own pipelines just like they have no reason to shell their own troops at Zap NPP or to fly a drone into the Chernobyl NPP.

Remember how a Ukrainian soldier stood up on his feet after Zelensky's visit? That's nothing. 100,000 Russian soldiers came back to life after his recent statement. From 350k to 250k in two months.

"Putin has lost approximately 250,000 soldiers killed in this war and more than 610,000 wounded."
