The most critical issues were NOT resolved yet during the instanbul peace talks. The narrative that Ukraine could easily have had peace and happiness if not for the nefarious, bloodthirsty Western powers which sabotaged it, is nothing but Russian propaganda. Was some progress made? Yes. Was it a missed opportunity that these peace talks broke down? Also yes. Was a proper, comprehensive breakthrough already achieved back then? Hell no.

Ok, I have my own conclusion: when you are at war, things change from time to time, as situation changes.
Basically Ukraine has two options: "give up and run west" or "resist until permanent peace is on the table".
Sometimes the resist part might mean "temporary cease fire", sometimes it means war.
