Someone wrote a post that they are looking for items. In this thread, sellers made offers to sell these items. I offered one of the sellers to buy this item, is this a violation of the rules?
Thx for the answers

if he dont want it you can ask.

you can maybe ask him if its ok (without answer at his own topic )

i think i remember that it is not legal. ^^ Or the fine way. You could snatch it away from him

Yes, you may not offer on items that are sold in an ISO topic of somebody else, as that violates the Illegal Trade rule (to be exact: that's trade stealing).

Quote
Illegal Trade:
Do not steal other people's trade threads. (you may be warned for this, as it is spamming).

As taken from here.

This rule means that you are not allowed to post in other users threads in order to "snipe" an item or service that has been offered to them. Instead, you need to open your own topic.

Feel free to PM me if you have any further questions in-regards.

I didn't post in someone else's thread, I asked the seller in private messages. Is this forbidden?

That doesn't change the fact that it's Trade Stealing. It would be similar if you asked me "Am I allowed to cross a street when the traffic light shows red (= stop) if nobody sees me?" -- I hope that makes sense. :)

In addition to that, trading via PM in general is also covered in the Illegal Trades rule.

Quote
Illegal Trade:
No trades via PM. (It's harder to prove a scam via PM than from a trade thread, so always negotiate and deal through a trade thread, not PM).

This post is a violation of the site rules and appropriate action was taken.

Okey, thx

note that as per the green guy's example, nobody in the history of either trading or walking has ended up in trouble for it

go right ahead and pm your offers, but in your case the nice thing to do would be to offer to buy said item if the guy he originally offered it to doesn't buy it. cutting in line isn't a nice thing to do
