Never. The losers are liable for war crimes until the day they die. The winners have nobody capable of holding them liable.

Russia wins? Who's going to invade them to bring their "war criminals to justice"? If Ukraine were to somehow magically win, who's going to enforce action against Ukrainians' war crimes? NATO? LOL!

Trump says the US “was helped” by “Russia” to win the WWII before claiming that “Russia” lost 60 million lives in that war.

Leaving aside the question of who really helped who and the wildly inflated casualty figure, the reason why Trump speaks about “Russia” in this context is that Cold War propaganda needed to ethnicise Soviet Union so as to drive a wedge between Russians and other Soviet people, especially Ukrainians.

Doing that in the WWII context naturally leads to denying the role the Ukrainians and other Soviet nations played in defeating the nazis.

Now enter Ukrainian nationalists. Former head of the Ukrainian Memory Institute Volodymyr Viatrovych accused “Western politicians” yesterday of failing to recognise the role Ukrainians played in defeating the nazis. He meant Trump of course.

The role Ukrainians played in the WWII is undeniable, but they played it primarily by forming a huge part of the Soviet army and fighting shoulder to shoulder with Russians, Belarusians, Georgians, Kazakhs and all the others.

But it is Viatrovych, an SBU cadre, who spearheaded the destruction of WWII memorials and erasing the memory of Ukrainian WWII heroes all over the country, while promoting the cargo cult of nazi collaborators and perpetrators of Volyn massacre and the Holocaust. The cult that was imported in the 1990s from Ukrainian diasporas in North America (and there is a separate story of how Canadian and US secret services imposed this cult on formerly left-leaning diasporas during the Cold War).

In summary: Was his sacrifice worth it? A reward of a white Chinese car that constantly breaks down , perhaps an indoor washroom, and a few million rubbles—whose value vanishes hourly with rampant inflation. No smiles, no hope, no future. For a nation already suffering from catastrophic birth rates, is it truly worth it?
