Looks like ofthevoid is now debating with people who had to be imported from other threads. probably not a bad thing really noting the usual suspects can only bang on about how russia didnt win after 3 days, are running out of bullets or post another drone attack (or rant and rave about how Ukraine joining Nato had nothing to do with the conflict in the first place). Curious what happens in the next 1-2 months on the Ukraine-Russia issue. Biden was funneling money in overdrive over the last few months to Ukraine, assuming because there's enough fear that Trump would cut the aid. Probably enough to hold them over until spring. Odds of Trump actually completely cutting it off?

I think Trump realizes how horrible it would be from a PR perspective if he just cuts off all aid and forces Ukraine into a de facto unconditional surrender. I consider it more likely that he will apply pressure on both sides to come to the negotiating table and agree to some kind of deal, but will continue basic support for Ukraine until then.

Trump campaigned and won in a historic fashion on a platform that included ending the war in Ukraine/ending aid. The media that's neocon controlled would frame the stopping of all aid as some great defeat, while many Americans would say yeah he's doing exactly what he said he would.

Ukraine wouldn't get cut off immediately, but would be given a heads up, hey you get realistic about some peace plan (which would include ceding territory) with us still backing you through the negotiations or we stop aid, with war continuing to rage on and Russia probably taking everything east of Dnipro, you decide. The trick for Trump now is to bring peace, stopping aid eventually but simultaneously extracting as much as he can in concessions from Russia. I think the recent ban on shadow fleet oil with India and China complying could also be a part of that pressure to drive the Russians to some peace.

If i had to guess Ukraine will still get aid but now it will be with a timeline where as maybe before the support was without the stop watch. I don't think we're going to be seeing 100+bn annual packages to Ukraine from now on. Not with DOGE, not with shit like the LA fires that may result in fed bailouts and spending.

Yes, something along those lines is what I expect and alreadys meant with my previous post. I think we're actually mostly in agreement here.
Basic support but no 100bn packages, pressure on both sides to get a peace deal, a clear deadline communicated to Ukraine about when Trump wants to see this conflict resolved. (Whereas Biden let Ukraine set the strategy and timeline as they saw fit).

That being said, I do believe that immediately cutting off all aid for Ukraine on day 1 - while applauded by the MAGA base - would not be particularly popular with the middle of the electorate. Remember how public opinion was clearly on the side of ending the Afghanistan war, yet Biden's approval ratings still took a huge hit once Americans saw the images of a messy retreat and America's enemies overrunning an allied country? If Trump completely pulls the plug on Ukraine right away, you'd get similar footage.

The attacks about how Trump called himself the great master negotiator and how that actually just meant "uncoditional surrender to our foes" would write themselves. Americans no longer want interventionism, but this does not mean that they want American weakness, either. Trump did a pretty great job threading this needle during his first term.
