Adding a jewel which has both ed and max dmg will trigger the bug. The ed will not apply to the max dmg, but it will still apply to the min dmg. adding an ed/max jewel into an item that has base ed; paladin shield or circlet; all of the ed will no longer work for max dmg, but will still apply to min dmg.
For paladin shields and circlets that have base ed, adding jewels which only have max dmg, or min dmg, or a mixture of both min/max dmg will not cause the bug and the ed will apply correctly. It is only when ed/max jewels, or ed/min jewels, are added into the shield where all the ed no longer will work properly.
Examples:
Case 1: Item has innate %ED. You socket with a +Max or +Min Jewel. No bug.
Case 2: You socket an item with a %ED Jewel. Then you socket with +Max or +Min Jewel. No bug.
Case 3: Item has innate +Max. You socket with a +%ED Jewel. The %ED only applies to minimum, not maximum.
Case 4: Item has innate +Min. You socket with a +%ED Jewel. The %ED only applies to maximum, not minimum.
Case 5: You socket item with a +Max Jewel, then you socket with a +%ED Jewel. The %ED only applies to minimum, not maximum.
Case 6: You socket item with a +Min Jewel, then you socket with a +%ED Jewel. The %ED only applies to maximum, not minimum.
Case 7: You socket an item with a %ED/Max Jewel. The %ED only applies to minimum, not maximum.
Case 8: You socket an item with a %ED/Min Jewel. The %ED only applies to maximum, not minimum.
Case 9: You socket an item with a %ED/Min/Max Jewel. The %ED applies to neither.
