Well, the chances of actually passing the various rolls is not really high enough for the first two to worry about distorting the rare and magic. Magics when gambling are ~9 times as likely as rares, so if that rough base holds, the distortion is small. From experience, I would say the actual drop rare vs magic is much lower than that for monster kills, but I don't know that for sure.

Either way, that distortion is not something I should be too worried about to be honest.

is it necessarily in steps like this? or will 400 mf bring your drop %'s up in between the figures ?

It is purely a mathematical function so every single point of MF is effective. (No breakpoints in other words). The table is just an illustration.

I mean, how silly is it to have an IK bot based barb guide in the stickies while leaving out a reputable legit MF guide ?

On a sidenote, the "Magic Find Explained" link included in the D & G Updated Help Post is nothing but hopelessly outdated. And that is just one example.
I have asked both MrBommel and a few other mods what they intend to do about the bot based guide as well as updating the UHP (note the irony ^^).

Guess what ... no response. And the bot guide is still there, unchanged. >.<

Someone is either asleep at the switch or simply does not care.
