Couldn't harm, but people don't read the stickies in any event, they just post the same questions over and over and over....

I agree - it definitely could not harm.

Part of the reason why some people never read those stickies might be that they do not clearly state wanting to be read. A proper description such as "Read me before posting !"
or "A Collection of Character Guides", although it may seem rather obvious, could probably draw people's attention and make them think twice.

And to say the least, both the stickies in the DG forum and the SG subforum are (still) in urgent need of an update.

Not to mention the PvM subforum, there is just one stickied topic about UT. Well, we know for a fact that PvM has a lot more to it than just UT.

How about this for a change, topic title: "Sticky: Browse the Arreat Summit ...", topic description: " ... before posting routine questions." biggrin.gif

Since the MF you have is always the same as the effective MF for magic items you should always find the same amount of magic items (on average) regardless of your MF. But I would have thought you would find less Magics with more MF as the items dropped a less likely to fail as uniques/sets/rares.

No, mf means you find less white items. The white items that you don't find are the blue or higher. 500 mf gives you ~6 times more magic items, since your effective mf is still 500.

edit: and read the guide again, it states that uniques and sets are the first to be checked.

Sorry the first sentence i wrote was complete garbage, yea you find more with 500 mf (6 times more than at 0 mf). But imagine having 10,000 mf, that would be 101 times more magic items, you would imagine that the drop would be overflowing with magic items. What the actual chance of finding a magic item from a drop with 0 mf?

Correct:

I have 100% MF, and I find X.

The game now applies MF to each quality roll in turn:
1. The game applies 71% MF to my Unique roll
2. The game applies 83% MF to my Set roll
3. The game applies 85% MF to my Rare roll
4. The game applies 100% MF to my Magic roll.

The rolls are done in that order, and clearly if any one of them passes, the process ends there.

what im trying to see is does 100% mf really mean 100% magic mf since it often wont reach the magic roll...

It means 100% better chance than you had at passing that roll, nothing more than that. If your chance was X, you now have 2X chance of the roll magic roll passing.

As far as actual chances of the rolls passing in the first place it is a simple calculation which is then upgraded depending on the monster. Normal<Champ<Boss<Act Boss<Act Boss Quest.

As far as actual numbers go, you will have to google a detailed drop mechanics post. The truth is out there wink.gif

So yea you have 2 times chance of passing tha roll but not 2 times chance of finding a magic item from the monster.

So only the unique effective mf actually tells you your increased chance of finding an item of that quality (unique).
