Just upgraded my hdin to have 527 mf.
Level 94
I do all act bosses.
i do see a difference, i get low amounts of uniques compared to 250 mf, BUT i get better quality.
for example, after about 15 runs with 250 mf i would get 2 raven frosts with decent stats such as +200 AR +16dex.
but now after 25 runs or so with 527, i would get one raven frost with stats of 249/20 ...
:/
anyways... my question where should i mf with 527 @ lvl 94, aiming to get griffs/coa/sojs.
Short answer to this:
Sigh. There is no correlation between MF and item stats. None at all.
Long version:
The guide is clear, but I'll elaborate:
3 stage process:
1) Pick base item. This is determined by available TC which is in turn determined either by preset game TC or mlvl of the monster killed. MF is never involved.
2) Pick item quality if applicable. By quality we are refering only to the magical quality of the item, being unique, set, rare, or magic.
This is the only stage in the process of picking an item that MF gets involved.3) Pick specific item according to rarity if applicable (for example unique rings) AND assign random stats to whatever item was picked. MF has no bearing at all on this process.
MF is only ever applied to the check for magical quality, it has no bearing on base items, it has no bearing on the specific choice of item where there is more than 1 unique for example available, and it has absolutely no bearing on the assignment of the random stats.
Having said all that, you should still MF with the higher MF% if your kill speed is not impeded. This will result in more uniques, and therefore more chances to roll good ones. Your observation that you get fewer unqiues but with better stats is just what happened, not what statistically we would expect to happen, which is all you should consider.
Personally I found a perfect Arachnid Mesh with zero MF. Doesn't mean I now do my magic finding with zero MF, it just means I got lucky that day.
