Introduction

MLD Bowa's are one of the strongest builds that you can make at LvL 49. They compete very well vs most classes/builds and in D2 they only had 1 hard counter (High Charge Damage Paladins). Multiple MLD tournaments were won with Bowa's in D2LOD down through the years. It can be difficult (not impossible) to build a MLD Bowa on a budget but the build really shines when heavily invested.

Build Preface - Dex or Vita ?

For the purposes of PvP, there are two types of Bowa's - Dex Builds and Vita Builds. Dex build - More damage, Less Life ( Also described as a Glass-Cannon). Vita Build - More Life, Less Damage. I advocate both builds but recommend Dex Build to new players as it has a faster learning curve.

Break Points:

IAS: 105% IAS needed for Shadow Bow's and 145% IAS needed for Matri Bows
FRW: Aim for 100-120 FRW
Life: Aim for 1000 Life
Guided Arrow: Aim for 3000 Guided arrow
FHR: Currently 0, further testing required to see if, and how much, helps in D2r (the HLD Bowa is still base FHR if thats an indicator).

Stat Placement

Str: For Gear
Dex: Max or enough for gear (Dex Build)
Energy: None
Vita: None or Max (Vita Build)

(switch to All Vita and Dex only for gear after maybe 500 duels.

Hell Rushed, all stat/skill quests completed.

Gear

When it comes to gear, typically you are using 3PSM 30FRW 2 sox Circlet (x2 15ias/30ed Jewels), 4 Sox Dusk of the Whale 100 life (or a 4 sox 100 life armor for now), A Shadow Bow with 4xx% ED with 300+ Max damage. A similar Matri 400ed+ but with 20ias (Sox 15ias/30ed), 3psm/100 Life Amulet, 2PSM/20ias/9Str/15Dex Gloves, Raven 20 Dex, Rare dual stat 15/15/90 mana ring, String 15/15 and War Travs. An Artisans Kite Shield of Deflecting will be on switch (x3 30ed dual stat 9/9 jewels) with Eth Titans (or a Rare 350%ed+ Eth Repl Matri's / Stygians).

Circlet or Coronet

1. 3PSM 30frw 2 Sox [ x2 15ias/30ed jewels ] [ x2 15ias/30ed Jewels ]
The standard Circlet/Coronet, which is almost impossible to beat, is a Magic 3 Passive and Magic, 30 Faster Run Walk with 2 Sockets, with x2 15IAS/30ed Jewels in it.

2. Rare 2PSM 30FRW 2 Sox with +Adds with x2 15IAS/30ed Jewels in it. In terms of Rares, you really need some great adds before you can consider ditching 3/30/2sox. The best add would be Replenish Life 10.

3. Rare 2PSM 30FRW 2 Sox with +Adds with x2 15IAS/30ed Jewels in it. The dream adds would be something like either 60 Life 10 Repl Life 90 Mana or 30ed 15 Dex 60 Life

4. In the event that you are using a Shadow with base IAS, you can replace x1 15ias/30ed Jewel in circlet with a 30ed/9str/9dex + Adds (Best add is 4 Repl Life)

Note: With Str Bug a thing of the past I cannot recommend non-frw circlets [ historically in D2LOD you could use a 30Life 3 Sox Helmet with x3 30ed + IAS jewels. This is no longer good for D2R as D2R does not have Desync.

Amulet

1. 3 Passive & Magic 100 Life Amulet. The standard MLD Zon Amulet.

2. Rare 2 Passive & Magic 50 Life 80 Mana. This is basically what you are looking for long term. (60 Life 90 Mana is perfect)

3. Rare 2 Passive & Magic 15Dex 60 Life 10 Repl life 90 Mana 20 All res. The Dream rare would be something like this. Str or Dex is fine on the amulet.

4. Crafted 2 Passive & Magic 80 Life 10FRW. As 5 Faster Run Walk Small Charms are not a thing in D2R, a Crafted Amulet with 10 FRW is effectively 60Life (x3 20Life charms). to convert that to rare its: 2PSM 140 Life, which is gg. Note: with STR-BUG and Desync no longer a thing, a Crafted Amulet can now be actively considered, and actively farmed. You cant get a 6 Mod one however as the level requirements would be over lvl 49. (Shop and Craft at Level 54).

Weapon(s)

1.Shadow Bow - Anything over 380% ED

The dream stats for a MLD Shadow bow would be 450ed + Max Damage + 2 Sox and you would put x2 Jewels 30ed adds 10-18 damage in it. We have seen 1 such bow in 20 years in D2LOD. Typical good shadow bows have 350 top end damage.

2. Matri Bow - A Magic Cruel Matri of Eviseration, and getting 2 Sox from Larzuk, is more then viable. (x1 Shael x1 15ias 30ed Jewel)

The dream stats on a Rare Matri would be 20% IAS 450ed + Max Damage + 2 Sox and you would put x1 15ias/30ed jewel and x1 30ed adds 10-18 damage in it. We have seen 1 such bow in 20 years in D2LOD. Typical good Matri bows have 250 top end damage.

Switch

Javs

1. Eth Titans 180-200% ED. These are the standard Javalins.

2. Rare Eth Repl Matri Javs (or Stygian Pilums 30IAS) with 380-450%ed Eth Repl. Items like this are 10K+ fg.

The dream stats would be something like +2 / 20ias / 450ed 1/10 repl time (javs replenish quantity at different rates depending on the drop, i.e. 1/10 = once every 10 seconds).
The replenish quantity mod can spawn 1/10, 1/20 and 1/30 (not shown on screen, has to be tested). example:

Shield

1. Artisans (or Jewelers) Kite Shield of Deflecting socketed with x3 30ed 9 str 9 dex jewels (The Best Jewels would be 30/9/9/4Repl Life)

2. Rare Eth Repl Grim or Dragon Shield with 100%enhanced Defence, FHR, 2sox and Replenish Life.

Armor

1. Jewelers Dusk Shroud of the Whale (4sox, 100life) with x4 15ias/30ed Jewels.

Note: Whatever way you look at it you need 4 Sox armor and x4 15ias Jewels. Other armor types and varying life rolls can be considered as temps.

Gloves

1. 3 Passive & Magic 20 IAS Gloves

2. Rare 2PSM 20ias +adds. Ideally look for 13-15 Dex or Dual Res (30 Single Res is max) (9 Str 15 Dex Max)

3. Rare 2PSM 20IAS 9 Str 15 Dex - What all MLD Bows look for. You can also get a Res on it, but thats next to impossible to find.

Belt

1. String of Ears 15DR 15MDR. Its almost impossible to beat string of ears. I dont advocate rare belts.

2. Crafted 80 Life Belt 10Open Wounds Belt. Optimal vs a Blizz Sorc. Note if you dont have enough replenish life this matchup is incredibly hard.

Rings

1. 20Dex/250 Raven. If you are just starting, there is nothing wrong with using 2 ravens.

2. Stat Ring 10+ str 10+ dex 70 mana. (15 Str 15 Dex Max)

Boots

1. War Travs - while there is an arguement for Gore Riders at HLD ( accepting some builds dont have max block ) its hard to beat war travs for a MLD Zon.
2. Water walks 65 Life - For vs ESFB (or when in TvT where opponent has a ESFB)
3. Infernostride - These were used in D2LOD vs ESFB - probably banned in D2R (for now)
4. Gore Riders
5. Rare 30FRW 9 Dex + adds (Res) Boots. I dont advocate rare boots.

6. Craft 30FRW 10 Repl Life + adds (Res) Boots
