most people would agree that magic =/= elemental

in diablo you can easily reduce fire/cold/lightning/psn damage but not really magic; its like special damage and not elemental like the rest

this would means that most people don't know what they're talking about:
the fact is harder to reduce doesn't mean it isn't the same thing.
another proof:
MDR aka magical damage reduce works on both elemental (even if it's called Magic Damage Reduction) and magic damage.

The fact that magic dmg is different is the reason hammerdins are so op as monsters didn't have magic resistance. One of the things they patched, could be 1.13 IIRC, adding some magic immunes but still not nearly enough
