What are some of your favorite audio books? I have never been one to sit and read a book but I am starting to feel like I am missing out on a lot in life because of it.
I have decided that I am going to start listening to audiobooks.

Some categories I think that I will enjoy:
Fantasy
Self Help
Sci-Fi
Philosophy
Suspense

i mostly listen to female narrators of fantasy/scifi on audible. i dont listen to the epics much (LOTR, hobbit, etc) if that's what you're into. a few of those recommendations here: http://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=71352729&f=266

a few of my recs:

Off to Be the Wizard - fantastic nerdy book about a boy who discovers "powers" and goes back to medieval england to be a wizard
Blood Wager - fun read, but not super amazing; newly-created cookie baking vampire who fights werewolves
Divergent - i thought book 1 needed a better ending and didnt like book 3, but a lot of others do.
Hunger Games
Monster Hunter - lots of action; accountant finds out boss is a werewolf, throws him out the window, and joins a team to fight vampires. but it's pro-gun and anti-gov, dunno how you feel about that
Steelheart - action; supervillains take over the country with no superheroes to fight them. evil-superman takes over chicago, and narrator joins a team of humans to take him down
11/22/1963 - guy finds a door that leads him to 1958 (could be off a year), and decides to stay in the past and save kennedy
Ender's Game - boy trains to lead an army to kill aliens
Harry Potter (Jim Dale's narration only) - great narrator. used a different voice for every single character. set a world record and won awards for it.

i heard Dresden Files and Game of Thrones are a good series, but i havent read it. also The Strain (narrated by ron pearlman) about zombies.

i listen to audio books during cardio and at work. not recommended when you're lifting weights because you have to count the reps and focus on form, so it's harder to pay attention to a book.

Check out a Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy.

Entire thing narrated by the author. pretty fucking good, and fits within a few of the categories you talked about. I listened to the entire thing when I took a little road trip to DC this past summer

I just DL'ed by youtube--> MP3 through my phone, and had the entire thing/didn't have to use data which was nice.

most people listen to books in the car, i think. coworker spends an hour each way to get to work, which is around 1-2 books a week. a lot more entertaining than listening to music.

Fuck leisure reading of random books
leisure reading of science books on the other hand

LOL speaking of that, I was serving a table one day and the lady and I started talking about reading or what she was reading or something. She asks if I read and I say only textbooks and papers and such. She said I need time away from that because eventually my mind would put up a "wall" so that I couldn't learn anymore and I needed to do other reading to "relax". I didn't have the heart to tell her she was a moron (mostly for the reason of tip ofc).
