meh, this is what i figured

i looked at it as an investment with a greater upside than downside

i now have absolutely no excuse not to work out, unless i am away from home
this gym equipment will be good for the rest of my life, weights don't go bad when treated with care.
the cage allowed me to expand, although i will never have as complete of a setup as paying for a gym would
and my current gym was $20/month with a $60/year charge, so thats $300/year. this will pay for itself within 5 years
plus, its so fucking convenient to be able to squat ass naked blaring music that i want to listen to, then walk upstairs and have shit cookin and be able to shower, no commute or any other inconveniences. even though my gym was 24/7 M-Th, it closed at 9 Fri Sat Sun, which didn't always fit with my work or school schedule

300 pounds of plates, practically new bb, up to 1 40 lb db, a fuck ton of rubber mats, etc. just sitting in my garage.

Tried to sell on craigslist and everyone wants to basically pay less than a 1/4 of what I actually paid.

I see you're in NY
I browsed all over CT, Mass, RI, and NY craigslist for weight to purchase. I opened my offers with a lowball of $0.50/lb, but I would have gone up to $0.75/lb if it was worth it. A lot of people expect to get close to what they paid, which just isn't going to happen... I would say used weight won't ever go for over a 1:1 ratio unless it is bumper plates or some old school York plates. but then again, anything under $0.65 is just ridiculous. People be cheap.

You're saying you have a set of DBs up to 40 lbs?

Shit, you don't even have to explain yourself lol. Don't let anyone say it's a waste of money. . . You're improving your health mentally and physically and you're saving time and improving convience. That dude probably just decided to throw out some hate because he isn't happy about his own life/decisions.

Dig the setup man.

Kind of, but not really. I was too lazy to actually post the huge gap.

I have 1 40. No 35's, 30's, or 25's. 2 20's, 15's and 10's.

I have one of those dumbells that can put actual plates on them to have either a 5 lb db or a 90 lb db so I never invested too much into actual dumbbells.

i'm really tempted to get one of these... its basically an olympic dumbbell? i've never used one before so I don't really know what I'm looking for, but it would be SO MUCH cheaper than waiting and trying to find a nice set on craigslist. haha, if i was to try to build my own set, i'd probably have a huge gap like you do. nothing wrong with that at all though, just silly! :P

Basically yeah. So much cheaper than buying a whole set of dbs.

They're on the bottom left of the rack.

how many 10s can you fit on there? i guess plates per side or just max weight with 10s... i feel like 25s could potentially get in the way of wrist movement on certain exercises...
so maybe i could use olympic dumbbells up to a certain weight and just snipe craigslist for the #s above that! sweet idea man :)

So I just checked for you and I think 6 10's per side. I only have 2 of them, but it looked like at least 6 could fit with room for a clamp.

120, or even 100 to be safe + whatever the bar itself weighs... that's not too bad! I'm definitely not pushing that on many lifts, yet! will definitely consider...
now, what are your thoughts on a smooth collar vs a grooved collar? i noticed that my more expensive bar is smooth, which makes moving the clamps much easier... my beater bar from Dick's is grooved, which makes moving collars a bitch, but it does seem "grippier" and that is definitely something that is crucial in adjustable dumbbells... i was lifting at a buddies house once with standard dumbbells and the twist-threaded collars, and it gave out and i almost crushed my face while decline benching. idk if it was stripped or what, but never again, man... i love the feel of a standard hex, but buying a whole set would either A) extremely expensive, or B) take a ridiculously long time to piece together a sufficient set from craigslist
very thankful for your efforts, btw. this pow-wow will go a long ways
