Hello, I would like to ask and confirm how mediators work exactly.

Let's say that I am selling an item for 850fg. If I want to safely trade the item, I should have the person post their offer in the thread (if they have not done so already), request a mediator, then I hand the item over to the mediator for holding, the buyer sends me the 850fg as agreed, then the mediator hands them the item after confirming that the fg has been sent.

Is this all correct? If a prospective buyer using PMs suddenly gets cold feet and no longer wants to trade when using a mediator gets brought up, does that mean they were a scammer looking to scam me and backed out once they realised it isn't going to work?

you give the item to the mediator and the buyer sends him the fg. Mediator gives you fg and gives him the item

Okay thanks close enough, so just to confirm 100% is there zero possibility of either side being scammed when using a mediator?

Just for my own future knowledge and reference, is there any costs or limitations involved when requesting / using a mediator?

Thanks to both of you for the quick replies. I'll definitely assume the guy was a scammer looking to take advantage of me then.

Hi Amplify_FA,

The whole process is explained here in this link: https://forums.d2jsp.org/info.php?p=11

If during the mediation process either party wishes to abort the trade before the trade is completed, that is before the items were handed over & the fg has been sent from the mediator/forum bank to the seller,
both parties will be required to send a PM to the mediator detailing that they wish to cancel the trade and once the mediator receives that instruction they will proceed with the refund of fg.

Take your time to read through and follow closely to every instruction that the mediator has given you, don't hand over items/fg unless instructed by a mediator/the system and your trade will be 100% safe.

Feel free to PM me if you have any further questions.

A lot of misinformation is this topic, you don't give your items to mediator and mediator is not in the game with you...

Mediator contacts you both here on jsp and buyer sends the fg to medi, medi tells the seller that he has the fg, you both meet up (buyer and seller) in game (d2r) and do the trade.
After the trade you both contact the mediator to confirm that the item has been transferred to the buyer and medi sends the fg to the seller.

For legacy D2 mediations and only legacy D2 mediations, users do indeed have to hand over items to a mediator, for more information you can refer to the guide posted by me and #4 above.

With every kind of mediation users are sent very clear step-by-step instructions by the site/mediator on how to proceed, providing that they've been following instructions it is safe to say that a scam will never occur.

A simple look at the recent topics reveals that he plays D2R and not legacy D2, mediations are carried out differently than what was posted.

None of you corrected the misunderstanding and chose to indirectly answer his question by provided the link to the types of mediations available to d2jsp users in different games, my post was an answer to his question and situation.
