Is there a certain build or technique that’s best? Will I hit a road block?

It really depends on your gear and what works best for you. Every character has pros and cons.

If you don’t spend some of that fg or find decent items then yes you will hit a road block. When you do, you can either buy better gear or make/use another character to level up until it hits a road block and keep doing that. I don’t recommend deleting characters as they can be used as mules to store items/junk that you want to keep.
You can also reroll a character back to level 0. This will still keep all your gear and your proficiencies but will need to select character type again and restart at lvl 0. This is useful when you want to find low level maps or if you put your skill points incorrectly.

I saw you choose guardian which is in my understanding as a fellow noob a group character. If you want to start out try fighter barbarian (standard choices) or rogue.
Try to get done basic EE (enhanced effect) gear from marketplace (don’t go too hard as a newcomer, buy the 1fg items with mediocre ee to try things. Max ee per tier is 20, the closer you get to that the better - and more expensive)
