Hey guys back again with a few questions -

About to hit lvl 40 - this is my best piece of gear - chest is 33EE and some random found healing charms.

Whats a reasonable budget to go to the trading section to look for some good upgrades from 40 - down to drop a bit of fg but not too rich - is it worth it past just browsing the market in game?

exploring seems like it's getting harder solo - How fast does xp drop when whistling for lower lvl mobs? Is it ever worth farmer something lower than max?

P.S.

Loving the game so far - thanks for all the help from the community all together!

I recommend making a post. You can sometimes find good deals on the market but it’s pretty rare. Most people are very generous in this game and you may get some mediocre items for very cheap, people like to help new players so the game doesn’t die :)

You have two basic options as far as weapon types:

Option 1: (arguably the better but more expensive option) is to build daggers + axes. This paired along with a caster set can get you through every class in the game. The downside is that it’s more expensive and you have to build two weapon sets rather quickly as paladin is only the 3rd class and you have to have axes for paladin

Option 2: (the cheaper less effective route) is the build swords. Swords can take you through the first 3 classes and works on the 5th class (ninja). The downside to this is you either need daggers or staves to get through monk which is the 4th class

If you have any questions feel free to PM me. I’m not an expert but I’m willing to help with anything you can

Someone way more knowledgeable than me may also post here and offer some advice

is a great guy with a lot of experience. I’m sure he will post here to guide you a little better but this advice should get you started

I’d make a post in the trading section with the weapon types you’re interested in building and just let people know you’re not looking for anything expensive. :)

Edit:

If you go daggers/axes you’ll want dex charms + ee scale/leather/chain/plate for soloing

If you go swords you’ll want str charms + ee armor for soloing

As far as which body armor type is best - that’s kind of up to you to decide how long you plan on playing the game. Chains/plates are better for tanking BUT they cannot be used past paladin. Scales/leathers are a good choice and can be used through paladin and again on headhunter

Oh god I quoted and didn’t edit. My bad :bonk:

Yup time to spend some of that hard earned fg if you want to get to 71 (especially if you’re doing this solo).

I recommend waiting until the weekend when there are more people online and hopefully more items in the market. Try to get armor and weapon 100 ee or more. Either search for it in the marketplace or put a thread in the trading section that you are looking for lvl 40 and up items for whatever your main character is.

Looked at your post:

Rogue: = Great UNIVERSAL item class to choose = Axe / Dagger / Sword / Club etc for a Weapon Feeder class, as for Armor Class, restricted to Robes / Leather & Scales (ignore Chain / Plate), also, the Rogue can use ALL charms as well as the next class "Samurai", yet this class is restricted in the use of Weapons (NOT armor).

NOTE: You have NOT COMPLETED A MASTER QUEST... so you only encounter 1-2 normal & 1 evil presence SPAWN, whereas, once you complete a Master Quest, it changes, also you can type /set easy 0 ... this removes the restrictions, but, if you type /set easy 1 .... this restricts the monster amount spawn UNLESS your character class level is level 71 +

Personal opinion, buy up the cheapest Weapons / Armor (even if it is mix n match) that you can use during your climb(s) starting from level 55 and working down in levels of 10 (55 - 45 & 35) and then work to IMPROVE those items as you can find and easily buy lower level (Tier) items for cheap.

I couldnt have said this better myself..

personal preference: i prefer rogue as my main starter. yes gear is slightly more expensive, but worth it in the end as most of it is transferrable to other graduated classes.. look at padded robed and scales, daggers and axes, and lightning AND or wilds for dex, AND EE. all of these will help with everything all the way though to alch ;)

hope to see you venture into HC soon ;) the community is smaller, gear is more scarce, and if you RIP you loose the char and gear on it.. aside from that. most in the HC community will gladly help you out to get started ;)

Main thing that it looks like we need to talk about is how level requirement on items matters in terms of damage.

Using 51 ee level 20 dagger at level 39 is more like using a negative 10 ee dagger. a level 35 dagger with 0 ee is doing more damage than your current one.

I explain this is more depth here: https://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=82816922&f=74
But basically you should need to upgrade your weapon at every 10 levels minimum.

Also, seeing you've picked a rogue and correctly went for dex ratio weapons, these being Dagger/Staff/Axe. Swords and clubs are usable but need significantly higher EE to get the same result. Again it's shown in the first link,
But i recommend you don't limit yourself to daggers.

Currently SZSZ has been doing pretty decent deals to newcomers for Daggers, so you can try asking him, https://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=88420536&f=273
If he can sort you out a 35/45/55 for around 50-150 fg, you'll be doing well.

Lets talk armors. The issue with buying EE armors for a rogue is that EE non padded robes give terrible defense and not worth using. EE padded robes arn't too much better until we reach numbers which come out of your price range. This leaves 30-80ee leathers/scales, which in general do not drop very often so are generally unavailable.
So in general i recommend rogue users to try and buy a level 35/40 leather/scale with ~30ish dex and a level 50/55 leather/scale with 30ish dex. Both of these should only cost about 20 fg each as they are beginner gear.

Also you quite desperately need a semi decent dex charm, anything 20 dex+, should be worth looking at.
currently there's a 24 and 23 dex for 10 fg each and a 34 dex for 15 fg, i'd highly recommend the 34 dex one at 15 fg.
Note the level requirement on charms DOES NOT MATTER. The only reason it matters for armors/weapons is the defense increases on armors and the damage increases on the weapons. For charms the spellcasting damage increases and seeing you are not spellcasting, means a higher level one will not be of any benefit. In fact it's worse seeing when you complete a MQ your level gets reset to 1, (staying at high level does not give any benefit to new players).

Also as a rogue all points should be going into dex and vitality.

So in short:
Need a new dagger level 35 or 40 with 30+ ee, try talking to szsz in the second link
Buy a 20+ dex armor for level 35 or 40, currently just 1x on the market 28 dex level 35 leather for 19 fg.
Buy a 20+ dex charm, there's a 24 and 23 dex for 10 fg each and a 34 dex for 15 fg,

I am keeping your budget low, it's upto you if you fancy paying more for better gear. Feel free to pm me for price checks if you start looking around at other items. Whilst SZSZ may sell you an ~70ish ee dagger for between 20-50 fg, you're probably going to have to spend 200+ for 100ee+
A few players will attempt to rip you off, as we have multiple resellers who buy cheap items from the MP aimed for new players and attempt to sell them at high prices.
Finally i suggest you keep any old items the entire gameplay of ladder slasher is to repeatedly get to the Master Quest to try and unlock the next class (everyone has an equal chance of getting new classes, this is not gear dependant) as i mentioned, completing a MQ resets you to level 1, so completing a gear set so you have items to go from level 1-MQ is generally recommended, this is my club/strength setup: https://forums.d2jsp.org/user.php?c=3&i=193561&p=29506

Good luck!
