you're probably not searching correctly, if you are really interested in joining the proper groups you need to stick around at level 1 and wait until groups come up (i recommend avoiding making your own), they may ask to see MQ gear so that they then know you're able to do decently.

Just remember to skill multistrike till level 40 then do what you want with the rest and use that multistrike any time it's charged 40%+ and there's 7+ mobs on screen and you should be ok. Will also help if you own a dex robe so that if someone else is tanking you can avoid using EE robes in the back rank as they're redundant for that purpose.
