The short version of bob888's guide:

Use powerstrike + retribution as abilities.
Stat strength/vitality
A level 15 weapon with 70 ee does more damage than a level 10 weapon with 80ee. This is why you need to change weapon regularly.
Use either strength armors for more damage or ee armors for more defense. I'd recommend strength as it's usually cheaper, the higher the level of the armor, the more defense it has.

Be warned, it will be really slow at level 55+

Avoid using the marketplace for any purchase above 100 fg, most of the prices are enormous rip offs, ask the trade forum for a price check or just iso an item on the trade forum for a better price.
The marketplace prices are often done by traders who are trying to make a quick buck, we make them feel as uncomfortable as possible in LS, but they still turn up. the 100ee+ weapons in particular are all about triple standard prices on the forum.

Once you've got the hang of it, the fastest way to climb is joining a group at level 1, however you WILL need gear from level 1 all the way to 55. here's an example of my dex/dagger setup: https://forums.d2jsp.org/user.php?c=3&i=193561&p=189720
I've still got an old guide hanging about here which is still the best available to understand: https://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=82759999&f=74
However, these groups are absolutely terrible for earning fg, so depends what your goal is.

If your goal is to make fg, in general the fastest earner is reaching level 55-60 then stopping yourself from levelling further by dying, as level 55 mobs drop just as well as 65+ mobs but are a LOT LOT easier to kill, by the time you reach 70-71 to MQ you'll see the difference.

If you are using a low lvl map at lvl 43 or if you are whistling for lower lvl monsters the xp gain will be very minimal

If you are running a normal catacomb you will get 2-3% per kill (ep’s give a little more)

Also recommend investing in life regen gear….it will help your life regenerate quicker in town. Or buy a cheap rod and go fishing. Eat the life fish you find (or cook them for more life).

Oh that was it I was running maps in my bag not paying attention to lvls lol I just did a basic cata and got some XP.

Is it better to balance XP gear or go all dmg for faster XP/hr

If you solo, exp bonus on your equipment doesn’t do much in my opinion. Weapon needs as much enhanced effect as you can find/afford to kill stuff quickly and your armor needs as much enhanced effect as you can afford/find so you can defend better against attacks you receive. EE Robes are useless unless you’re a monk or ninja, chains and plates are decent (they’re weakness is magic damage) but they are more affordable, leather/scales are best against both physical damage and magical damage but the higher lvl you go the more expensive they become.

Charm should be strength unless you use daggers/staffs(staves?) which use dexterity

Edit also slightly disagree with bigheaded about buying items 100 fg or more but you need to know the VALUE of the item before purchasing it. For example if you see a 130 ee weapon or charm for 100 fg grab it quick that’s most likely a bargain!
