That would be correct depending on your terms of renting.
Usually minor things (if you know how) is somewhat ok to many of people since it isn't really worth the 'hassle' of calling a landlord.

If you are dealing with a small home and you inform them, the renter and landlord could simply communicate that a part is changed and compensate them from the rent.
Although many people prefer not to do this since it would complicate things and some landlords abuse good nature or "forget".

Basically this, I’ve got no problem doing small stuff and deducting a few bucks. But I’m not taking on the responsibility and annoyance here. Obv landlords don’t want to get fleeced by plumbers, but I’m paying rent to live here, not fix the place right?

Okay yeah that would be the flapper, or whatever you would call that tower in the middle that acts as the flapper. Just needs a replacement. They're super simple to replace though.

You should be able to pull the model number from the inside of the tank and see what flush kits are usable.

Yeah generally here (east coast US) tenant is responsible for things like air filters, light bulbs, etc. basically perishable supplies. They’re expected to start you off with fresh ones and maybe as a courtesy, but all the air filters for you. (Since they really suffer if you don’t replace it in longevity of the HVAC unit.)

Mechanism looks newer and seems to be replaced already. I'd check the o ring seal on the water tank where the flapper part touches and probably replace that first..

Yes, every single contract is different, although most of them stick to a basic one already predesigned from the agent to make it 'safe'.
Usually they make it always the landlords responsibility to fix everything.
But clauses can be added if they wish to.

Yes, that would be correct.
Not there to fix the place.
Inform them that there is an issue with the toilet and it consistently makes water noises every xx minutes.

yeah depends on what the landlords like too i guess, some will fix the problem immediately and some will avoid and situation for as long as they can
all they really care about is that rent money

I wouldn't, because if that were the problem then the water would be leaking on the floor, clearly visible.
