(simple vault + pocket)
the idea is to be able to split your FG into "privately" and "publicly" viewable sections.
-the "pocket" being what we currently have, which is viewable via profile and post.
-the "vault" being the private stash of currency. FG can be deposited and withdrawn with gold password.

only FG in the "pocket" can be sent/used/offered.
FG in vault cannot be used until withdrawn to pocket. (even for simple tasks such as adding bold to topic titles)

this will allow users with large amounts of FG to hide their wealth if they wished.

option 1: personal lock
adding a "personal lock" to vault. FG withdrawn from vault will not be transferred to pocket until requested time expires.
min = 15 minutes : max = 1 week (no lock also optional)

changing or removing the time requirement to obtain withdraws from vault, will match what the "personal lock" is set to.
i.e. 1 week personal lock takes 1 week for a removal or change of the lock.

a smaller time limit could help prevent the loss of FG if you're able to notice your account is compromised in time.
a larger time requirement could give users the security when they are going to be gone for a length of time.

option 2: 1-time lock
you may only want to set a "personal lock" once, to match work schedules or vacation trips, for examples.
this lock cannot be removed even with password. (the countdown starts when set)

maybe i'm wrong, but i don't believe that's really an issue. if someone is found to be a scammer, their account is locked.
better to have the FG on the account being locked than on an alternate account that may or may not be.

this does remind me of a suggestion i was going to add in OP and forgot.
i would suggest giving admins the ability to view user's personal vault, given reason.

to be fair the admins can see your IP address, it shouldn't need to be a suggestion that they can see a vault as well if there was one

On the Practical side of things, for people with gambling issues here, being able to lock themselves out of their own gold for a week with no ability to touch it would be a nice thing to hopefully help them stray away from it for a bit
but on the hand of what the forums are used for primarily, there is almost no real reason something like this should be around

i look at it this way, anyone could just be like "i'll buy XXXXX for 35,000fg, don't worry bud it's in my vault i'll send after i get the item(s)"
or if they ship it off to a multi and the multi vaults it away, making harder for regular users to spot stuff like this.... JoeShmo scams 10k fg and all of a sudden Billybob got 10k out of nowhere with his 0 post count but was viewing the same trade thread. Having a vault would stop that for being noticed

the bold is fair criticism. that would be an easy exploit. (again, it would be against rules to offer what is not in pocket, but that doesn't mean ppl won't)
underlined i don't believe to be an issue. admins already have access to gold logs i believe. (i don't believe this is evidence enough anyway to tag someone)

I see 1 pro that you listed

But many unlisted ones for site management. They already deal with a number of requests on password/gold password and now you want to add a third so people can hide.fg?

Hmm... Idk about this. It opens a door for too many possible scams in my opinion.

In addition, it honestly seems like it would be a very large amount of work for the site administration to monitor/regulate with very little return on investment overall.

Best of luck to you, but i'll have to go with a No on this one.

Potentially it could be easier to abuse rule "Do not offer fg/items you don't have" (source: d2jsp Trading Rules), I am going to null vote here, I appreciate quality suggestion with explanation and poll.
