unfortunately, most of the scams happen because people rush for trades.
people will drop 3/20/20 to random people claiming that they are rich jsp users, without bothering to verify. i highly doubt people will take a second to search for know scammers battletags.
Not a bad idea thought. Having said that, jsp is a bit slow.
check the recent prolific scammer. Very commonly, when someone choses to scam, he goes rapid fire and scams many people and gets banned. in this case ... a list of known scammer btags is not going to help anyone.
Do you think that many of the victims would have bothered searching a list? they are all in a rush to do the trade and get the sweet sweet fg. 🙂

Yes, the less likely to happen part. Additionally, someone being searchable goes both ways. someone contacts you, you search them on jsp too to confirm it's actually them. And saying 90% of scams is because someone knows your gamertag seems like a reach considering a trade has to be desired then scammed. my bnet tag has been on my jsp for years and ive never had someone randomly reach out to me from jsp.

Long story short I am still not seeing how just knowing someone's account name can cause a scam. Telling me to read SA which is a thread of reported scams doesn't help unfortunately.

I do feel we are getting closer to the answer though where I might finally see where you're coming from. just need a little more help to understand.video url

its not "reach" its reality.

not to mention how clueless one would have to be to believe that even the legit average jsp users have a single d2r account, i have 5, 8 if i include brothers.

trade safe use med.

literally cant be scammed that way.

there are specific scammers who target high value items . once a person posts something if high value, they send him a bnet friend req and then pretend they are a rich jsp user to enforce 2/3 rule.
you can't believe how many people have fallen for this impersonation scam.
people are just thirsty to make a sale .
having your bnet tag on jsp only makes you a target. it does not help legit trading in any way.

Well, thanks to havocpowers helpful response a staff member liked the idea. I appreciate y'alls debate on the topic but safer is safer. If someone chooses not to use a tool that could be provided by the site, that is of course on the individual.
The suggestion only adds an additional layer of security.
I clearly wont get an answer/explanation to the part I don't understand so I will be moving on with my day. If you truly tried to explain, Thanks.

Thats not something i would have been able to understand. My thought process when i get a random friend request is "who the heck" "bye" so thanks for explaining the other side of that.

Battle.tags are collected as evidence and included within SA threads which allows them to be searchable within the SA forum, but having mandatory btags posted in profiles, or a general sticky, this will not happen.

Users are urged to exercise safe trading practices, and follow the outlined trading rules.
