Don't worry, you'll be able to camp Redridge and STV as much as you want :)
Unless they want to drastically increase server population compared to what Vanilla servers were capped at back in the day I see no reason to have sharding. I know the Blizzard team have been careful of the leveling process ever since the catastrophic Burning Crusade launch but there's no reason for sharding. There's 6 starting zones, it's enough. Again, unless the servers allow for way more population, which they should not do, it's not needed. Please no "megaservers" Blizzard. Economy goes whack and the world feels so much smaller when there's so much plebs running around in the world. Also ruins nice world pvp because it's hard to get some nice 1v1s and such because people just join in.
There's a nice video by Alexsensual that echoes some of my concerns and questions about what's in store for Vanilla. I like some of his proposed tweaks of the changes. The loot trading needs to be tinkered with and I like his suggestion, same with cross-realm BGs. He suggests that BGs should only search outside of your realm after 20 minutes in queue as to not damage server rilvary in BGs too much. With this tweak, cross realm BGs will only pop if the other faction in your server actively dodges a premade that's too strong. You get a nice sense of pride of accomplishment, I heard people like that.
