Yeah you can repay in some situations.
I barely remember what even happened or my reason to do it besides greed? I’m not sure. It was over a decade ago lol.

I quit gaming back then but now that I have more time I’m starting to pick it back up. Just tried d4 this week and man has shit changed. Too much math involved lol. Remnant 2 looks good and so does Baldurs. I might grab one of those.
